Overview

Volcanoes National Park is a national park in northwestern Rwanda. It covers 160 km² of rainforest and encompasses five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga Mountains, namely Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo. This park nests the mountain gorillas and golden monkeys which are quite popular.

Itineraries

Day 1: Arrival to Rwanda

A warm welcome by your driver guide at the check-out point of the airport.
Check-in, Dinner, and Overnight at Movenpick Kigali.

Day 2: Explore Kigali

  • 08:00 – Breakfast at the hotel.
  • 09:00 – Traditional cooking class, followed by lunch.
  • 14:00 – Briefly visit and tour the Genocide Memorial.
  • 15:30 – Drive to the Volcanoes National Park.
  • 18:00 – Check-in at Grotta Resort.
  • Dinner and Overnight.​

Day 3: Mountain Hike

  • 06:00 – Breakfast at the lodge.
  • 06:30 – Head to the Volcanoes National Park for the briefing that starts at 07:00 AM. Your mountain hike will start at 08:00 AM.
  • 15:00 – Drive to your hotel for lunch and a relaxed evening. (At Grotta Resort, you can enjoy the pool, the gym or participate in the morning or evening cow-milking, plus one can have a quiet moment from their on-site cave)
  • Dinner and Overnight at Grotta Resort.

Day 4: Transfer to Akagera National Park

  • 09:00 – Breakfast at the hotel followed by check-out.
  • 10:00 – Visit and tour the Ellen DeGeneres Campus.
  • 14:00 – Quick lunch at Nyandungu Birding Park in Kigali.
  • 15:00 – Proceed to the Eastern part of Rwanda.
  • 18:00 – Check-in at Ihema Lodges.
  • Dinner and Overnight.

Day 5: Akagera National Park and Departure

  • 07:00 – Check-out and carry your breakfast.
  • 07:30 – Start your full day game drive.
  • 15:00 – Transfer to Kigali and to the airport for your departure flight.
