The Nyungwe Traverse is our signature multi-day trekking challenge, guiding you through the breathtaking and ancient Nyungwe Forest National Park. This incredible journey offers a rare opportunity to witness diverse ecosystems, encounter unique wildlife, and experience the profound tranquility of one of Africa’s oldest rainforests.

• Route Overview: The Nyungwe Traverse typically spans several days, covering significant distances through varied terrain including dense forest trails, muddy paths, and undulating hills. You’ll navigate through different sectors of the park, witnessing stunning biodiversity and incredible vistas. Overnight stops are typically at designated campsites within the park, providing a true wilderness experience under the stars. Specific routes and daily distances will be detailed in individual challenge itineraries.

• Fitness Level Required: The Nyungwe Traverse is considered challenging to extreme and requires a high level of physical fitness and mental endurance. Participants should be capable of hiking for 6-8 hours daily, often over uneven and sometimes steep terrain, carrying a daypack. Prior experience with multi-day trekking is highly recommended. Regular cardio, strength training, and long-distance walking in the months leading up to the trek are essential for a successful and enjoyable experience.
